This is the height of harvest season. Come taste this week's 4 varieties of apples, 3 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, pears, plums, and peaches (yes the peach season continues as the late ripening season stretches to one of the latest harvest dates we've been lucky enough to have). Each week you'll be able to taste at least one new apple variety as each of the 32 types we grow ripen in succession. Our plum crop has been full this year so you will keep seeing those at our stand. We currently have Santa Rosa plums this week with Black Amber and Elephant Heart yet to come. Bartlett pears are the first off the trees which you will see this week. In a couple weeks we will probably start harvesting Harrow Sweet pears. With peaches, this week is all Freestone varieties, mostly Cresthaven although you may find a few Hales as well. More Hales and O'Henrys are still on the trees.

Collaborations put us in our happy place. This is Steve checking the brix, or sugar content, of some crab apples which originally grew in Boulder Colorado. A few years back, Daniel Haykin (along with a small group of folks on the Front Range) @haykinfamilycider was sleuthing out Apple varieties which were on the verge of going extinct. These crab apples are among the varieties he sent us cuttings from for us to propagate and save in our Orchard. Several of the trees that crew took cuttings from have since died. Now these crab apples live on and will be picked to be made into a unique and superlative cider. Life is cool!
