These are a newer variety released from the University of Arkansas.  Most blackberries fruit on canes grown the summer before – making them susceptible to winter damage.  Prime Jim’s fruit on canes grown earlier in the summer, so winter is not an issue.  Because the canes have to grow before they fruit, they are picked later in the fall and are not quite as large as Triple Crown blackberries, but the flavor is still sweet, balanced by a nice tangy tartness.
